Hi, I'm Dani! Welcome to my corner of the web. I'm a passionate UX Designer who loves cooking, art, nature, and technology.
I got into UX Design in a roundabout way; I graduated from University in 2020, not knowing the state of the world or my future. I moved back home and my friend got me a job as an Optician. I should mention, I am lost without my contacts; I have come to terms with the fact that I would not survive a zombie apocalypse. It is what it is, and it ain't what it ain't. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my career and no vision insurance, so I continued to work while looking at my options.
I have always been interested in art and computers. I've been painting since elementary school, and I even got a minor in Cybersecurity! But in my mind, they had always been separate, until I found UX Design.
I started working with a UX mentor in the beginning of 2023, going from the basics of UX Design all the way to an end-to-end case study that I could show off in my portfolio. I completely fell in love with all of it - the psychology, the design, the problem-solving, and the attention to detail - all of my favorite things in one!
Transferrable Skills in the Optician to UX Designer Pipeline:
Empathy - understanding that eyeglasses can be a big purchase, it was important to talk to the clients to understand what they really wanted and make sure they felt comfortable with what they were getting.
Communication - being the messenger between clients, my bosses, insurance companies, eyeglass manufacturers, and more!
Problem-Solving Abilities - having to troubleshoot when clients weren't 100% happy with their glasses, especially when they were not familiar with the jargon of the optical industry.
Adaptability - technologies, trends, prices, and customer preferences were constantly changing
Attention to Detail - this was crucial for ensuring prescriptions and measurements for fitting frames were precise.
